Who is Richard Griffiths?

Richard Griffiths was an English actor of stage, film, and television. He was known for his roles in The History Boys, Vernon Dursley in the Harry Potter films, Uncle Monty in Withnail and I, and Henry Crabbe in Pie in the Sky. Griffiths was born on April 8th, 1947 in Thornaby-on-Tees, England.

After making his stage debut at the age of 17, Griffiths went on to star in a number of plays both on Broadway and in London. In 2006, he won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Play, the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play, and the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play for his role as Hector in The History Boys.

In addition to his work on stage, Griffiths also had a successful career in film and television. He is perhaps best known for his role as Vernon Dursley in the Harry Potter films, but he also starred as Uncle Monty in Withnail and I and Henry Crabbe in Pie in the Sky.

Tragically, Griffiths passed away on March 29th, 2013 due to complications following heart surgery. He was 65 years old. Griffiths was survived by his wife, Heather Gibson, and his two sons, Luke and Ryan.
